I’m sure most of you know durians. But, do you know 猫山皇 durians?:) I didn’t know, but I after today, I don’t think I’ll forget it.
After talking about having a durian feast for a couple of weeks, Chris, Pris and me decided we’ll do it today. I told them we’ll have them at the new durian joint near Joo Chiat Pl.
me: Boss, durians for 3 person. Can recommend something good?
DS (Durian Seller): (in that familiar JB accent) SURE!! You must try 猫山皇, yellow creamy flesh, sweet or bitter ones, small seeds… best!
me: orh ok… how much?
DS: 1kg 20 dollar.
me: hmmm… (discuss with Chris)
me (to DS): We’ll take 1 each from different grades (some cheaper ones).
DS: Don’t bother lah, you take 猫山皇, you won’t want to try others!
me: erm… ok.
DS opened one, said that’s a bitter one and asked me to try it (which I did). Opened another one that’s sweet and got Chris to try it. Then opened the last one which he said was “bittersweet”. He then put them into a basket and have them weighed.
I looked at the scale, blinked a few times. Damn! Nothing changed. The scale pointed to 10Kg. I looked at Chris. Our facial expressions looked as if a durian just dropped on our feet.
me and Chris: Can we take one out? Two will do fine.
DS: (waving his hand at us… which coincidentally, was holding the knife) 小弟，开了不可以不要… (you must buy it since the durians are already opened)
me: orh…
DS: I give you one small one for free lah.
DS to fellow DS: 来！两百块！收钱！(200 dollar for this guy)
We spent the next hour stuffing ourselves with 猫山皇 durians, making sure no flesh was spared. I tell you, for once, I felt like a tourist in Singapore. I don’t know was it the sugar in the blood, we laughed so much on 猫山皇 jokes that people around us must’ve thought we’re crazy. Laughing at our own expense, literally. Two of the durians were nice, the other one was so so. Well, we had a good time, at a price.
I brought the “free” durian that I got back home and offered it to my housemate. He put it in the fridge and said he’ll have it later. I’m going to check on him in a while. Once he take the first bite, I’ll charge him S$50:P *evil laughs* I am… 猫山皇!!!:D *LOL*

eh! If only i know that you were going to that crappy four seasons durain cafe in joo chiat… i would have stopped you.. They are a scam! My cousin paid over 200bucks as well.. i think they earn about 200% per kg durains…

*MeoW*MeOw*MEoW* in 猫山皇 language = Wahahahahahahahahahah..we need to avoid all spikey (& expensively shocking) foods (e.g. sea urchin & catty durians) from now on… hahahahahha.
I like the way you put it “Durians 1 – 0 for the 菜头!! Hahahaha. Think if we change it to spikey foods the score will be spikey foods 2 = 0 (still!) for 菜头S hahaha.

Hahaha… this post is so funny *sorry guys*… $200 for 3 durians IS really expensive… next time must control DS’s knife before he starts opening more…
Actually … come to think about it… no wonder the DS said “you take 猫山皇, you won’t want to try others!” we really don’t wanna try others… cos no more $$ to try others liao.. Hahahaha
makes me drool with the durian picture. but me no fan of meow meow durian wor. i still prefer D24. $200 is expensive can!!! Hahahaha
what about the burp?
norm: I think they probably earn MUCH more than that loh. My mum was just telling me how much they cost in Malaysia. The money is one thing, but insisting that I take all the durians he opened, that really pisses me off.
Chris: Yeah! let the $200 smell linger a little longer ya?:P
Pris: At least hor, the urchins were pretty good. I think my quota for durians reached for this year leow!:P
Tricia: Their movements so fast, before you know it, it’s already opened. They say it’s ok to try, never say open must buy mah. I keep hearing people saying 3 for 10 dollar. But then, I like kena the opposite leh…
Pris: That’s so TRUE!! I thought at most we’ll spend like S$100! When I saw the needle at 10kg, my jaw dropped:P
Cindy: The meow meow durians are ok lah. Although I prefer those a little more watery kind. This one is very creamy. And we thought S$12/kg the last time was ex:P
norm: No BURPING in the car!!:P
lol….. i haven’t tried yet but $20 per kg…. diaoz…
Pris told the caregroup about it. I’m so bringing along a police friend if I wanna try.. haha…
Ok, this sounds quite inappropriate but honestly, though i’ve blown my 2008 Annual Durian Budget, I was kinda yearning for durians a little last night still! hahaha! …hope you’re feeling better from the aftermath! =)

Chris: Today my officers brought durians to the lecture room. Damn… I can hear a crack in my heart:P Feeling much better from the heatiness already. Got my “reimbursement” from SAF today:D
