Homecoming

Time flies not only when you are having fun, but also when you are busy. Before we realize it, we have already been here for more than 4 months. My calendar events are reminding me to read up on the processes involved to send Mika back to Singapore sometime next year. The process is relatively more complicated than the ones to move here since Canada is not rabies free and there’s less restrictions to bring him over. The same can’t be said about Singapore, where he has to undergo mandatory quarantine and depending on what I do now (getting appropriate jabs), the quarantine can be anything between 10 to 30 days. The import and export permit is also more troublesome as it requires a government vet to verify the health check results. On top of that, we’ll have to secure quarantine spaces for him. Currently, dogs coming in from non-rabies free countries, such as Canada are not allowed to do home quarantine as we hoped it would be, but AVS told me it’s not allowed for now.

While going through this, it reminded me of the days we were going through documents after documents just to get to here. One thing I learned is there’s no such thing as being over prepared. Now in preparation for the return trip, the familiar feeling of stress and uncertainty is once again creeping in. Taking one step at the time, I’ve booked a vet appointment to get his first rabies jab and hopefully that will start the ball rolling.

Here are some images of our days in quarantine when we first arrived. Somewhat less stressful when all you need to do is remember to wake up, have your meals and go back to sleep.

The view from our apartment. Currently it’s been blocked by 2 cranes that are building the hospital beside us. We have kind of tune out the noise, which was quite manageable if we close the double glazed windows. We had a really nice view for awhile:)
No friends here, so for the first 1.5 months, this was the only friend she has.
Both of them making sense of the new environment.
We spent a fair bit of time making our own meals and I try to have her help out or at least be interested in what I was doing. We had a good time during those days. Sometimes, lack of options can be a good thing.
A little face off 😀
Making use of whatever they have to keep themselves entertained. A simple marker becomes many things.
To keep myself occupied, I’ll get them to pose for me sometimes. Not always successful.
Training. That’s also one of the things we do to keep both of them occupied.
I certainly hope nobody stays downstairs as they raced up and down the living room from time to time. We all need some exercise.
